STORY: Pinkmans to fly the UK bakery flag in Japan

Bristol-based Pinkmans Bakery has been selected to represent the UK at a prestigious fair in Japan.

After scooping the gold prize in the Independent Bakery category at the British Sandwich Awards (The Sammies) last year, the bakery will now fly the flag for the entire country at the Best of British Fair, held at high-end Japanese department store Hankyu.

The annual event, held in Tokyo and Osaka in October, brings together the best the UK has to offer, celebrating British creativity and innovation and recognising iconic British inventions and designs.

More than one million visitors go to the fair each year. Other attendees will include fish and chip shops, pie-makers and other quintessentially British brands.

Pinkmans will run a pop-up bakery, hosted by head baker Michael Engler and food and beverage manager Eddie Perez. The two will bake and fill thousands of their signature sour-dough-nuts and mini savoury buns for visitors.

Pinkmans founder Steven Whibley said: “It’s a real honour for Pinkmans to be invited to Hankyu’s British Fair in Japan. Since winning at The Sammies we have enjoyed the national recognition and we are now looking forward to showcasing Pinkmans internationally.”
