Costa Coffee Announces Pay Increase for Over 15,000 UK Employees

Costa Coffee is set to raise wages for more than 15,000 employees across its 1,500 company-owned stores in the UK, effective from 1 April.

The starting hourly wage for baristas will rise from £12 to £12.60, while barista maestros—who take on leadership and training responsibilities—will receive an average pay increase of nearly 5%, moving from £12.33 to £12.93 per hour. Employees who complete specialized training will see their hourly rate increase by an additional 50p, bringing it to £13.43.

Staff based in central London will earn £1 more per hour than the national rate, with barista pay starting at £13.60 per hour and barista maestros earning £13.93. Those who complete specific training will have their wages increased further to £14.43 per hour.

All employees in company-operated UK stores will benefit from this pay rise, with high-performing teams also eligible for targeted bonuses.

This £8 million investment is part of Costa Coffee’s commitment to ensuring its staff receive fair and competitive wages that reflect the rising cost of living.

Nick Orrin, Managing Director for Costa Coffee UK and Ireland, stated: “Our expert baristas and dedicated store teams are at the heart of everything we do. This latest pay increase underscores our continued commitment to investing in and supporting our people. We are proud to recognise their passion, skill, and hard work, which contribute to delivering outstanding experiences for our customers every day.”

In addition to pay increases, Costa Coffee offers various employee benefits, including a buy-one-get-one-free share incentive plan, a 50% in-store discount, savings on household expenses, bills, and entertainment, up to 10% pension contribution matching, income protection, life assurance, a cycle-to-work scheme, free Costa coffee during shifts, and access to the Costa Financial Support Fund for unexpected financial challenges.
