e5 Bakehouse To Open Cafe At V&A East Storehouse In May 2025

Two London organisations collaborate for a contemporary take on museum cafe culture

Today, e5 Bakehouse are thrilled to announce that they will be the food and drink operator at the V&A East Storehouse in Hackney Wick opening on 31st May 2025. e5 Storehouse will be the third in e5 Bakehouse’s independently run and owned cafe-bakeries.

e5 Bakehouse and V&A East Storehouse have come together to form a partnership which reflects both brands' commitment to bringing together communities with a strong focus on creativity, equity and sustainability, and creating a relaxed space, and a delicious, great value, and locally sourced food and drink offer for visitors.

Responding to the Storehouse design concept by Diller Scofidio & Renfro, e5’s Storehouse cafe design will reflect the existing e5 Bakehouse and Poplar Bakehouse’s existing aesthetic of earthy tones, bright colours and industrial materials for a playful, yet relaxed feel with recognisable elements from both sites. Modular design elements will allow the cafe to transform into an events and temporary display space.

A world-first in size, scale and ambition, and a new source of inspiration for all, V&A East Storehouse will immerse visitors in over half a million works spanning every creative discipline and take them behind the scenes of its busy working stores. V&A East Storehouse is the first of V&A East’s two new sites to open as part of East Bank, the new arts and culture district in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Further details will be announced in due course.

Louise Lateur, e5 Bakehouse’s Managing Director comments:

“We’re very excited to work alongside V&A East Storehouse teams to conceptualise e5 Bakehouse’s third cafe, e5 Storehouse. Alongside artisanal baking, e5 Bakehouse has always been interested in design and sustainability. We’re working closely with V&A East Storehouse to design a cafe that inspires creativity and communal dining. e5 Storehouse will operate as a cafe deli with our familiar pastries, bread and coffee, alongside a simple breakfast and lunch offering. The cafe will also host events and talks to be introduced after the initial opening period.”

Laura Parker, Deputy Director of V&A East, says:

“We’re thrilled to partner with e5 Bakehouse at V&A East Storehouse to create an exciting and affordable café experience and vital third space where everyone is welcome. Born and bred in east London, e5 Bakehouse are passionate advocates for our shared local communities. Their sustainable and inclusive approach to hospitality, desire to give back, and commitment to artisanal baking with ingredients sourced from their own farm and mill, are some of the many reasons we wanted to collaborate. e5 Storehouse will complement the existing food and drink offer in the area, while offering delicious, great quality food and value for our visitors – we can’t wait to open and welcome you in.”
